We made it! The last Friday of 2019!

Happy Friday, learning friends!
We had a short, but great time together this morning!

We started with our "Le Grinch" reader's theatre.
We all read so well, with such grinch-tastic expression! Bravo!

We then did an oral listening activity with the song Petit Papa Noël, as sung by Raffi.
You can hear the song HERE.

We finished up our morning with a team word-scramble challenge and a Grinchématiques Math challenge, and there was a festive prize waiting for us at the end!

Bravo à tous! :)

❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆
Wishing you all a very wonderful and restful winter break.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!
Joyeux Noël! Meilleurs voeux!

One more sleep!

Happy Thursday, learning friends!

We started our morning with a special treat in math - we got to do a special 12 Days of Christmas question... in English! 😄 Working in randomized groups at the white board, we first figured out how many items we would receive throughout the 12 days of Christmas, and then, using a special price list, we had to calculate the total cost for the 12 days of gifts.
5 golden rings and 12 drummers drumming are NOT cheap! :)

After we Mathed-out our brains, we: took one last block of time to practice our Grinch Reader's Theatre, listened to CFOO presentations, worked on a French writing assessment and finished off our 'secret' GRRRR Math coordinate pictures.
What a busy, fun, festive morning! :)

Wednesday - A 'secret' Math photo and a writing celebration!

Happy Wednesday, learning friends! :)
We had a great morning of learning together!

In Math, we continue to work on coordinates and were tasked today with drawing a secret GRRRR photo by placing and tracing different sets of coordinates on graph paper. We'll finish off these 'mystery' pictures tomorrow and have them on display for our special Reader's Theatre presentation Friday morning!

In Français, we were very happy to welcome Mme Buckwold and Mme Banks
to our classroom.
We introduced the writing process of our "La paix" poems and then started the celebration of our writing. We were divided into two groups, one staying in Room 208 to read to Mme Buckwold, with the other group reading to Mme Banks in Room 209 (Thanks, Mme McKenzie!).
Our poems were very personal to us and both Mmes learned a lot about us from listening to us read our writing. We all presented very well, reading confidently with expression. Bravo à tous!

Happy Monday!

Hello, learning friends!
The final countdown is on - 4 more days (after today) until we're off on winter break!
The time has flown by!

This morning, we started a little something new in Math - les coordonnés!
After reading the book, Sir Cumference and the Viking's Map we got to work exploring the different parts of the Cartersian plane.

We also took time this morning to practice our "Grinch" reader's theatre and to work on the editing corrections and the good copies of our "La paix" poems. We are hoping to present them to Mme Banks and Mme Buckwold Wednesday morning, so we are working hard to get our texts ready!

Friday!

Hello learning friends!

Here's a recap of what we've been up to over the past couple of days!

In Math, we continue to work with small numbers, and are now more confident with "les dixièmes" et "les centièmes." We will add "les millièmes" to our number knowledge early next week.

In Français, we have started using a graphic organizer to plan our "la paix" poems. After listening to three mentor texts about peace, we have had a chance to reflect on what peace means to us.

We are connecting our five senses (sight, smell, taste, touch, sound) to different memories that bring us peace. We will be starting our drafts in class on Monday and will have access to a writing frame and vocabulary anchor charts to support our writing. We'll keep updating you on our next writing task as we go. Stay tuned!

In Science, we have learned about the Sun, day and night and also solar and lunar eclipses. Next week we will learn about the Earth's seasons and begin a short research design about different ways to tell time (such as a sundial). We will model the project together as a class before working independently on our own.

Agenda

1. If you haven't already done so, please email to confirm you have received your child's Term 1 Report. Please also return the report envelope so that they can be re-used in Term 2. Thanks!

2. "Thinking" homework - please continue to reflect on/notice what peace means to us. Our goal is to have a least one connection for each of our 5 senses so that we are ready to start our writing next week.

Have a great weekend! :)

Tuesday

Happy Tuesday!

Today in Math we continued our investigation of small numbers.
Using Base 10 blocks, we learned how 1 can be divided into even smaller pieces: les dixièmes - 0,1 (tenths) and les centièmes - 0,01 (hundredths).

We will continue our investigation later this week by adding one even smaller unit of measure - les millièmes (0,001) - before applying our new knowledge to our Nombre de Jour activity. Fun!
