Live Different

Happy Friday!
Today we were very lucky to start our day with a Live Different presentation in the gym.
We had the chance to watch a few really cool inspirational videos and hear some powerful stories of how you can choose and be in charge of your best life!

Have a great weekend! :)

Agenda

1. We have now started the research and planning part of our biography concours speeches. Students will have time in class to research, but are encouraged to do some reading about their chosen person on their own in order to maximize their work time in class. World Book and Biography.com are two great sites to use as a starting point. The five main categories of research are:
Enfance (Childhood), Obstacles, Inspiration, Actions, Impact.
Students should focus on identifying main ideas and writing the information they've gained in French; writing research points in English only to translate them into French is twice the work. The goal is not to write an entire speech in English and then rewrite it - we will be focusing on generating our research points in French so that we can plan and organize our speeches directly from the work we've already done.

Positive - Negative Thursday!

Happy Thursday!
Today in Math we played a game to practice comparing and ordering integers.
The red cards represent negative numbers and the black represent positive numbers.
After each flipping over a card, we decide which one has a greater value and write it down on our game sheet. After ten rounds, we order all of the cards from smallest to largest (ordre croissant).
This is an easy game to play at home to solidify our understanding of comparing and ordering integers!

We LOVE to Read! :)

Hello, everyone!
What a wonderful Wednesday!

We got the day started off just right with our I Love to Read assembly in the gym. :)
We played a word game, listened to the teachers read La tignasse de Max and had a chance to drop everything and read!

A Wednesday morning doesn't get much better than that! :)

Tuesday!

Hello!
Our classroom is now full of new planets and new extra-terrestrial species!
We had a chance to share our Science projects in small groups and will have the opportunity to present our planets to the class tomorrow. We are looking forward to celebrating all of the hard work that has taken place over the past few weeks! :)

In addition to the agenda items below, please note that tomorrow morning is our I Love to Read assembly and that all students will be asked to bring a book with them to the assembly for a school-wide Drop-Everything-And-Read! It's the most magical moment - and one of my favourite things we do as a school all year! :)

We had a great day at Festival!
A bit chilly and a lot of fun!

We started our day learning two dances: a group dance and a jig!
We then heard some GREAT music, ate lunch and had a chance to explore the park!

We finished our day in Fort Gibraltar, learning about the NorthWest Company and the life of a voyageur.

Happy Friday!

Hello, friends of learning!

We had a LOVEly morning together in Room 208.

In Math, we watched a short BrainPop video about Division and then had a chance to colour a secret Math photo that allowed us to practice our basic division facts.

In Français, we took some time to choose the person we would like to research for our upcoming biography concours speech, and then had the choice to either continue working on our mystery Math photo or to keep working on our Science extra-terrestres design process project.

We all worked and collaborated well as a class this morning; a great way to kick off our upcoming three-day weekend. :)

100 Day!

Today we celebrated the 100th day of school!

Congratulations to everyone on being 100 days smarter! :)

To celebrate, we started with a party planning problem-solving question, and our budget was $100!
Please ask me about how I chose to spend my money for my party!

Next, we did an "Aimerais-tu" tournament. There were some pretty close votes, but in the end, we would rather have 100 chocolates!

We then did an "Amazing Race" type challenge with different Math questions.

Once we finished, we took a selfie and aged ourselves to show what we might look like in 100 years!

To finish off the morning, we did "Le défi de 100 secondes." How many push-ups and chair sits can you do in 100 seconds? How many times can you print your name or hop on one foot? After estimating our totals, we put ourselves to the test to see if our predictions were correct!

Want to see us in action?
Click HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.
Happy Viewing!

Happy 100 Day! :)

Happy Tuesday!
Check out today's Math problem:

Frame the Cards

Arrange ten playing cards (ace to ten) in a rectangle with three cards on two sides and four cards on two sides such that the sum of the cards on every side add up to the same total.

Here's a look at us working in groups at the white board trying to find an answer.
(There are 2 different solutions. Most of us arrived at 1 of the solutions after receiving a hint from Mme.
Can you figure it out?)
